The International Cricket Council (ICC) has appointed former Pakistan captain and all-rounder Shahid Afridi as the ambassador for the T20 World Cup 2024.
About this, Shahid Afridi says, "The ICCT20 World Cup is an event that is very close to my heart." From being the player of the tournament in the first edition of the T20 World Cup to lifting the trophy in 2009, there have been many highlights in my career on this stage.
He further said, 'The T20 World Cup has become very sensational in recent years. I am happy to be a part of this edition where we will see more teams, more matches and more excitement than ever before.
Afridi added that I am especially excited about the match between Pakistan and India scheduled on June 9. It is one of the biggest sporting events and New York will be the perfect stage for a thrilling encounter between the two teams.
Shahid Afridi was part of the Pakistan team that won the T20 World Cup in 2009.
In the 2009 T20 World Cup, he played an unbeaten innings of 54 runs in the final match against Sri Lanka at the historic Lord's Stadium in London and was declared the player of the match.
Shahid Afridi played six T20 World Cups for Pakistan in which he also led the national team in the 2010 and 2016 T20 World Cups.
It should be noted that apart from Shahid Afridi, ICC has appointed former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, former West Indian batsman Chris Gayle and former Jamaican athlete Usain Bolt as ambassadors for the T20 World Cup.
