England refuse to play Afghanistan until ban on women's cricket is lifted

Glenn Cricket Board (ECB) chief executive Richard Gould has said that women will not play a bilateral series with Afghanistan until the ban on women's cricket is lifted.

According to British newspaper The Telegraph, ECB Chief Executive Richard Gould has revealed that England will not play the series against Afghanistan due to the lack of facilities for female cricketers in Afghanistan.

No bilateral cricket series has been played between England and Afghanistan yet and no such series is scheduled, however both teams have been competing regularly in ICC events since the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup. .

Richard Gould says in his statement that "We do not currently have any kind of bilateral cricket series scheduled against Afghanistan and I do not think we will schedule any series with Afghanistan."

Richard Gould adds that the ICC says that it cannot interfere in the internal policy of the government. For this reason, certain countries may take a unilateral decision.

He added that we are discussing with other countries at ICC level what can be decided about this. I do not think that the majority of ICC members are in favor of taking any action against Afghanistan.

 After the Taliban government came to Afghanistan in 2021, the Afghanistan women's team was abolished, after which the players of the women's team are in exile in Australia.

In Afghanistan, girls are only allowed to attend school up to the primary level, while women are barred from enrolling in higher education.
